The Dutch Association of salaried Doctors, LAD is the employees’ organization for doctors, or trade-union if you like. LAD looks after the professional, social and economic interests of doctors mainly active in hospitals, family medicine, public and occupational health.
The organization also represents the interests of junior doctors and, in doing so, has a strong relationship with the LVAG, the Dutch Association of medical specialists in training. LVAG participates in the LAD delegation to the EJD.
At present, proudly representing more than 12.000 doctors, LAD provides legal advice for its rank and file, either individually or collectively, negotiates terms of employment and working conditions for its membership, offers financial and fiscal services and takes care of insurances for medical liabilities, et cetera.
LAD was founded in 1948 and still manages to unite all disciplines within the medical profession. The association is the largest partner of the Royal Dutch Medical Association, KNMG and initiated the Federation of Professional Organizations in Health Care, FBZ which, in addition to doctors, also fosters the interests of other health care professionals.
Moreover, in 1976, LAD was among the founders of, what was then called, the Permanent Working Group of European junior hospital doctors - which became, many decades later, the EJD (PWG) of today.
