We are proud to announce that the EJD has been officially recognized as a Non-State Actor (NSA) with WHO/Europe, a major milestone that will enhance our advocacy efforts for junior doctors across Europe. This status solidifies our commitment to representing and supporting junior doctors on issues that directly impact their careers and working conditions.

Ahead of the main session, EJD participated in the first-ever pre-RC meeting focused on engagement with Non-State Actors, where we presented EJD’s contributions to the health workforce. During this meeting, we highlighted two of our recent reports: “From Tradition to Transition” and “From Mandate to Motivation”. These reports address evolving challenges and strategies to better support healthcare professionals and drive workforce sustainability.

The EJD had the honor of attending the 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, held at UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark, on on 29–31 October 2024. This event provided a unique platform to connect with partners from European Medical Organizations, WHO teams, other NSAs, and Member State delegations. Together, we strengthened existing relationships and explored new opportunities for collaboration.
This year’s session spotlighted significant advancements, including Preparedness 2.0, the Emergency Medical Teams Regional Plan, and Harnessing Health Innovations. The region’s priorities on #OneHealth emphasize governance, leadership, partnerships, prevention, and preparedness capacities. There is a strong focus on equitable, inclusive solutions, data-driven approaches, sustainable financing, and developing workforce competencies.

One of the most important outcomes of the session was the unanimous adoption of the Framework for Resilient and Sustainable Health Systems 2025–2030. This framework seeks to build health systems founded on trust, equity, and sustainability. Additionally, progress on the Regional Digital Health Action Plan 2023–2030 showcased advancements in areas such as artificial intelligence, telehealth, digital health literacy, and equity.

We also extend our congratulations to Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge on his nomination for a second term as WHO Regional Director for Europe. His dedication to equity-centered health policies, primary healthcare, and addressing the climate crisis aligns closely with EJD’s mission.
